FAQs
Because it's the least likely Pilates reformer studio you've ever tried to find.
Speakeasy Pilates is hidden in the back of Center of Gravity Yoga, behind a door between a water fountain, a microwave and a pile of empty water jugs. The studio space itself used to be gambling den (regular poker nights still happen in the space below ours). So the location doesn’t exactly scream “sleek boutique reformer studio here!” But once you’re in, trust us — it’s a vibe.
Founder Jessie Knadler, an author and former magazine editor, leaned all the way into the space’s insider-y mystique. She built a studio that’s small, sharp, and full of personality — with cues that are as smooth as the flows. After all, knowing how to speak easy comes in handy when you’re helping people look and feel their best.
As of Winter 2026, we have classes:
• Monday through Friday 8:30 and 9:30 a.m. (Though Friday 8:30 is reserved for a private client.)
• Tuesday and Friday at 10:30 a.m.
• Saturday 10 a.m.
• If Saturday 10 a.m. books, we try to add either a 9 a.m. or 11 a.m. class as well.
The straight truth?
If you haven't exercised in a while and your strength, coordination and body awareness are not where you want them to be, and it's in your budget, then yes, a private session or two (or four or eight) is highly recommended.
It's truly the best way to learn equipment Pilates specific to your own body, needs and goals. We want YOU to get the most out of Speakeasy sessions you can.
Or maybe you just don't love working out with others. We have private clients who never take one of our classes. Totally fine.
On the other hand, if you're already relatively fit, coordinated and enjoy working out with others, then joining one of our Fundamental Reformer, Apparatus Mashup or Tower Power classes are a fine substitute. You will be well taken care of. We promise!
Only the best.
We don't bother with the cheap stuff.
Speakeasy clients work out on heavy-duty steel and leather STOTT Reformers that come from our friends up in Canada. We also have STOTT Towers, stability chairs and jump boards.
It's the sort of equipment you could throw off a three story building and it would likely be fine. Though we don't intend to find out.
Other props include: dowels, wrist, ankle and hand weights, fitness circles, Bosu balls and booty bands, not to mention a great sound system.
Yoga pants, sweat pants or biking shorts. Regular shorts are not recommended.
Sweaty hands and feet are common so weight lifting/grip gloves and grip socks are recommended.
In fact, as of Summer 2025, we require socks, preferably grip socks (see Polices and Procedures for more info).
If you don't have grip socks or forget your socks at home, we have grip socks for sale here.
In an ideal world, two or three times a week is the sweet spot.
In the real world, once a week can be a fantastic complement to other physical activities (yoga, running, golfing, dancing, walking, boxing, etc).
We need time to set up and clean for the next session, and we find that most clients are wiped out after 50 minutes anyway.
Great! Speakeasy is always on the lookout for well-trained, legitimate Pilates teachers—which can be kind of hard to find in Virginia's rural Shenandoah Valley.
If you have a legitimate Pilates teaching certification (translation: a two-hour Pilates webinar won't cut it, sorry) or are in the process of receiving one, let's talk.

Membership Plans
→ Auto-renew monthly with a small set-up fee and offer the best per-class rate
→ Aimed at clients who come consistently and want to save a little cash along the way
→ Classes must be used within the month; unused classes do not roll over to the following month
Classic Pricing
→ Buy a pack, use it when you can--no auto-renew
→ Costs a little more per class, but you get a longer window to use them (1, 2 or 3-month expiration, depending on which package you buy)
→ Ideal for those who need more flexibility in their schedule
(For more details about memberships, see the Membership tab.)
Classes begin and end on time regardless of the time the client arrives.
We have a strict 12 hour cancelation policy.
Last minute cancels or no-shows are charged in full for the class.
This gives us time to offer the spot to someone on the waitlist—our classes are small and tend to fill quickly!
No, sorry, all sales final—no refunds, exchanges or transfers.
The unused balance transfers to the Drop-In rate ($37 for a single class) and can be used only by the person who purchased it (no transfer or exchanges). Any remaining balance owed to the studio has to be settled prior to taking the class. Such transfers are scheduled through the studio directly, not through the site or the app.
As of summer 2025, socks, preferably grip socks, are required in class.
Why?
Because they’re the safest (and cleanest) way to move on the machines.
Forget yours? Not a problem.
We’ve got you covered:
• $10 non-branded grip footies
• $18 Speakeasy-branded grip crews
Your feet—and our equipment—thank you.
Using the app (as opposed to the Speakeasy website) allows you to take better control of your own bookings.
You can book your own classes, remove yourself from classes, see your purchase history, and look at the class schedule. It also allows you to sign up and cancel your subscription to Speakeasy's online studio of on-demand workout classes.
If it asks you for an INVITE CODE, use this: 38JQ6L
Use this as the code: 38JQ6L
If it doesn't work, contact the studio at speakeasypilates@gmail.com. We're happy to help.
There are 2 ways to book classes:
1) THE SPEAKEASY WEBSITE
• Click Classes.
• Scroll down (way down) to see our calendar. Find a class that is appropriate for you. If you're brand new, we highly recommend Fundamental Reformer, Apparatus Mashup or Tower Power. Find the time and date you want, click Book.
• Fill in your client details. Scroll down to Payment, click Buy a Plan.
• Scroll down until you find New Client Drop-In or New Client 4-Pack--these are special rates for clients new to the studio.
• You'll be walked through the payment process and asked to check a box confirming you agree to our policies and procedures (sock policy, late cancelation policy, etc).
• That's it, you'll receive a confirmation shortly!
2) THE FIT BY WIX APP
• Download Speakeasy's Mobile App. This is what most of our regular clients use because it allows you to book, cancel, rebook, and keep an eye on the number of classes left in your package yourself.
• Open the app and look for something that says Invite Code. Enter this number: 38JQ6L. This will take you to the Speakeasy Pilates page on the app.
• Create your account or log in. Use an email where you will see our booking confirmations. We will never spam you because we hate spam as well.
• Tap Schedule to look at our upcoming classes. If you’re a brand-new client and have little to no experience with the reformer, we strongly recommend either a Fundamental Reformer, Apparatus Mashup or Tower Power class. Once you find a slot that works for your schedule, click Book.
• Under Payment Options, select Buy a Plan so you can see all our pricing options….particularly those for NEW CLIENTS.
• Scroll down until you find Classic | *NEW CLIENT* Drop-In or Classic | *NEW CLIENT* 4-Pack. These are special rates for clients new to the studio.
• You will be walked through the payment process.
• You’ll receive a confirmation shortly—and you're good to go!
Ugh! Tech glitches are the worst. Please reach out to us at speakeasypilates@gmail.com and we'll make it right.
Because Wix only allows rescheduling for prepaid packages or memberships — Drop-Ins are treated as one-time, non-transferable bookings.

(For more details about memberships, see the Membership tab.)
All memberships include a one-time, non-refundable $25 set-up fee. This helps ensure our limited reformer spots are reserved for members who are genuinely ready to commit to their practice.
(We’re trying to avoid dabblers.)
Building strength, mobility, and consistency takes time.
A 3-month minimum helps support real progress—while allowing us to offer better rates, reserve reformers, and plan our schedule more sustainably.
Members may pause their membership up to twice per calendar year, for a maximum of one month per pause.
Memberships cannot be canceled or paused online.
Retroactive pauses (i.e., pausing your membership after you’ve already missed classes) aren’t allowed.
To pause your membership, please contact the studio at speakeasypilates@gmail.com.
Unused classes do not roll over. They expire after 1 month.
No refunds, partial refunds or prorated credits for unused classes.
In other words, buy the membership for the schedule you have, not the one you wish you had. If your calendar’s already squeezed, becoming an 8-Pack or 12-Pack Member might leave you with more reformer regret than reformer love.
4-pack and 8-pack members may not give unused classes to a friend or family member; the discounted pricing is available to members only.
12-pack members may gift 1 class per month to a friend or family member, provided the studio is alerted beforehand and the necessary waivers have been signed.
• Once the 3-month minimum commitment has been met, you may cancel at anytime.
• Memberships cannot be canceled or paused online. To make changes, please contact the studio at speakeasypilates@gmail.com.
• You are allowed two pauses in your membership twice a year up to one month per pause. To pause a membership, contact the studio at the above address.
• You must give at least 7 days’ notice before the next billing date to cancel or pause a membership. You will be charged for the month you cancel. So if you cancel in June, you will be charged for June (but not July).
• No refunds, partial refunds or prorated credits for unused classes.
• If you cancel your membership and decide to rejoin later, your new rate will reflect any price increases that occurred during your time away.
Members may book classes up to one month in advance. We recommend doing so shortly after your membership auto-renews to ensure the best selection of class times that month.
Billing occurs on the day of the month you originally signed up (e.g. you signed up on the 10th, you renew on the 10th).
Our booking system doesn’t currently offer priority booking for members; it’s still "first-come, first-serve" for members and non-members alike.
However, members are encouraged to join the waitlist for full classes. If a spot opens up, we do our best to prioritize members. While the booking system doesn’t automatically grant priority access to members, we manually monitor the waitlist and will make every effort to offer available spots to active members
first—when possible.
No, sorry, 4-Pack and 8-Pack memberships are non-transferable—no sharing, no tagalongs, no “my friend’s in town, can she take my spot?”
12-Pack members may gift one class per month to a friend or family member, provided the studio is notified in advance and the guest signs the necessary waivers.
Not to worry, your class credit will be returned to your account.
All members are subject to the studio’s 12-hour cancellation policy. Late cancels and no-shows are charged the full amount of the missed class.
